Fuel Switching from Lignite to Biomass -Wood and Wood Waste, and improving of Energy Efficiency in Teteks
A project for preparing project documentation and future implementation for usage of biomass and energy efficiency in Teteks has been started as part of cooperation between the Italian and Macedonian ministries for environment.
The project is in accordance with the Clean Development Mechanism of Kyoto Protocol for climate changes and will contribute to the reduction of green house gas emissions in the atmosphere as well as to achieving goals for sustainable development. Italian company Tolo from Milan is engaged in preparing the project, having signed a contract with the Macedonian Ministry for Environment in November last year. During a visit to Teteks by Mr. Gunther Fresser from the Italian company, the following activities of the project were agreed:
· Usage of firewood and wood waste as an alternative to lignite in the process of steam generation
· Restarting of two existing units for generating of electricity, driven by generated steam
· Measures for improving of energy efficiency of steam distribution network in the factory
· In addition, a possibility for delivery of heating energy to two schools, university and apartment complex is envisaged.
We are planning to organize a public debate by early March, where representatives from Teteks and the Italian company will present the project in front of representatives of the Municipality, neighboring factories and all stakeholders, directly or indirectly influenced by this project.
